Admirable Strength

Did anyone see The Biggest Loser tonight? It's one of the only television shows I watch. It's pretty motivational, which is why I like it. Sometimes there are contestants who just try to win the game, rather than help everyone win their lives back. I think it's unfortunate when people are just thinking of themselves and it just proves how insecure they are.
Tonight, however, there was an act of pure selflessness. I was getting all emotional watching Sean and Antoine gift Shay (and Daniel) another week on campus. They were determined to lose the weight and get healthy on or off the ranch, so that Shay who had the most to lose and who didn't have the support system at home could stay. What a show of strength to give up that once in a lifetime opportunity for someone else. It makes me SO HAPPY TO SEE SELFLESSNESS, especially on a show that is watched by millions.
These two are doing awesome at home too! They have lost 120 and 105 pounds so far and are still going strong! Antoine also had a little surprise in that he and Alexandra (the first eliminated contestant) have hooked it up and are really happy together. I am convinced that anyone who shows that kind of character and resolve is bound to be successful in most of what they do. I'm so impressed with them. What a great show!
Anyway, back to weight loss, one thing that helps make the Biggest Loser contestants really big weight losers is that Bob and Jillian help them build a ton of muscle. Muscle burns a lot more calories than fat. We can apply this too. Obviously cardio is great and necessary. Don't stop running, swimming or whatever else you do for aerobic activity, but be sure you don't forget to do strength training too. If you have a gym membership, then you have plenty of options for strength training. If you don't (like me), you can use hand weights and do arm exercises like these, ab workouts like these, work your glutes with these, or just do plain old push-ups, crunches and squats. It will be well worth it to spend a little time and strengthening.
Besides burning more calories, it also helps you feel stronger and look more toned.
Keep it up and you'll reach your goals!
